For everyone just itching to get into their cars for a spring road trip let me tell you Door County is ready and waiting for you. The proprietors of the fine lodging establishments of Door County Inns and Resorts suggest these 4 things not to miss this spring :
1) Take a hike at The Ridges – From their website: For over 75 years, The Ridges has been an integral part of the rich, natural setting of the Baileys Harbor community and the Door County Peninsula. Emma Toft, founder of The Ridges, was a trailblazing conservationist way ahead of her time. We recommend a trip to The Ridges just to learn more about this extraordinary woman.
Isn’t it time you discovered The Ridges?
2) Grab an espresso drink at Leroys in Ephraim – In 1994 a young Ryan Leary opened a coffee shop in Ephraim. Door County always had restaurants where informal groups of coffee customers would gather but the idea that a coffee shop could make a go of it in northern Door seemed unlikely. Kudos to the foresight of Leary. His coffee shop is the grandaddy of all Door County coffee shops. It is a great place to hang out – not to be missed. Stop by and congratulate them on their 19th year!
3) Take in the scenic vista at Ellison Bluff Park – As kids there are always certain things you want to do that does not pass muster with your parents. That list of things might include hanging over the edge of a bluff to see the cool jagged rocks below. Well throw caution to the wind and head to Ellison Bluff Park, just south of Ellison Bay, for one of the most amazing vistas in Door County. The park also features hiking trails and is pet friendly.
4) Take a scenic drive from Egg Harbor to Sturgeon Bay - As you head through Egg Harbor there is a road halfway through the village that will take you to the Alpine Golf Course. Head south on that road (called Horseshoe Bay Road at that point and Bay Shore Drive further south) anytime of year for a gorgeous “bluffs meet the Lake Michigan shoreline” kind of feast for the eyes. You won’t be sorry.
