Outdoor Door County: Random Wildlife Encounters, Part 2.

randomgeese

Following on the heels of our Door County deer encounter story, is a random gaggle of geese encounter while walking on Hwy. 42 near the Yacht Works and JJ’s LaPuerta Restaurant. I stopped to say hello and these geese (numbering about 20 or so) were completely uninterested in my presence. It is but a constant reminder that visiting or living in Door County is unlike anywhere else. Two weeks ago I stopped by the Sister Bay Boat Rental building at the Sister Bay Marina. SBBR employee Morgan Kinney interrupted our conversation to run into the street to stop traffic for a mother duck and her babies that needed to cross the street to get to Casperson’s pond behind the funeral home. It was a Kodak moment for which I was unprepared.

What is the moral to these Animal Planet-esque stories? When you come to Door County bring your camera or leave room on your smart phone for some very charming photos of encounters with nature. I am talking about animals now but really Door County nature includes stunning fields of wildflowers, rough blue waters with foamy whitecaps, and bluff top vistas of green forests. I guarantee you will find a Kodak moment that will make you smile months after your Door County vacation has ended.

Come to Door County, engage with the outdoors and stay with one of the fine proprietors of Door County Inns and Resorts. All of our properties are close to state parks, county parks and the waterfront. We hope to see you soon!
